History of Brandon, FL
John Brandon moved to the area in 1857, and a year later, he bought 40 acres of land where Brandon would be established. Brandon settled his family, built a house, and a few years later donated land to have a church built nearby. When the Florida Central and Peninsular Railroad built tracks through the area a couple of decades later, this was the start of major development, including a depot and many additional buildings. The first census was taken in 1922, and it showed Brandon’s population at 100 residents. After World War II ended, Brandon enjoyed a wave of growth, with new businesses opening in town. In 1959, a beloved local tradition began: The first honorary mayoral race was held. In these contests, each candidate raises money for local charities, and each dollar they raise counts as a vote. The first honorary mayor was Nat Storms, who collected $500.
Situated just 11 miles east of Tampa, Brandon has a convenient location for those who don’t want to live in Tampa proper. Brandon is also located along Interstate 75 and has close access to other major Florida highways. Brandon covers 35 square miles, with just two square miles being water. With numerous neighborhoods in Brandon, many people find the community a pleasant spot to live.
How’s the Weather?
Summers in Brandon can be oppressive, with months of hot and humid weather. The skies tend to stay mostly cloudy during the summer months. During the winter, the weather turns cool for a few short months, although the temperature rarely dips below 37 degrees Fahrenheit. Brandon gets an above-average amount of rain each year, with about 51 inches falling. The most pleasant weather months in Brandon are March, April, and November, and the least comfortable months are July and August.

The bakery menu features delightful cookie varieties as well as seasonal favorites such as pumpkin whoopee pies.
